Runway holding position
A runway holding-position marking uses paired solid and dashed yellow lines and marks a protected runway boundary. It is a high-consequence surface marking and must be interpreted with ATC clearance and aerodrome procedures.
Common airport surface families
| Marking family | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Runway designation | Identifies runway direction/designator. |
| Threshold markings | Identify the beginning of runway area available for landing, subject to declared distances/marking configuration. |
| Runway centreline | Provides longitudinal alignment reference. |
| Taxiway centreline | Guides taxi routing. |
| Holding position | Defines a boundary requiring appropriate clearance/procedure before crossing. |
Aviation markings are safety-critical. Use current aerodrome charts, ATC instructions, approved training material and applicable standards.
